Growing up parents have always stressed for children to take their vitamins, as vitamins play key roles in keeping us healthy.

Lately, there has been much speculation as to whether if vitamins are as beneficial as originally thought.

Natural vitamins found in food are needed by our bodies to thrive and to continue operating healthy but some studies show taking a vitamin pill may not do as much as natural vitamins do, and may even cause harm in some people.

Vitamins are good for the body, but too many vitamins can be very harmful. It is possible to overdose on vitamins with serious side effects depending on what vitamin and how much was taken. Iron overdose is a leading cause of death in children under 6, which is grim proof too many vitamins can do a lot of damage. Another example of vitamin overdose is that too much Vitamin A, five times the normal amount, can cause liver damage, blurred vision, and hair loss. Although taking vitamins is still a good preventative measure, it is very possible that too many can be taken resulting in health problems, and sometimes death.

Vitamins aren’t all bad, and there is some proof that vitamin supplements are a great way to keep healthy and to obtain vitamins that can’t always be obtained from eating food. The best way to guarantee that the vitamin supplement will work in the best way possible, take one multi-vitamin a day unless others are recommend by your doctor. Never assume your body needs certain vitamins, and always consult a doctor before taking any supplements, but most people do just find with one multi-vitamin a day.

Vitamins are a tricky subject, and the question, “Do they work?” is a hard question to answer due to varying differences such as who is taking them, what vitamins are being taken, and how much are being taken. For the most part, vitamins are safe and are also a great way to receive any vitamins missed out from their lack of being in food.
